Technical Inspection

Description

Vehicle inspection is a procedure mandated by the Royal Government of Cambodia, and undertaken by the Department of Land Transport, Ministry of Public Works and Transport, in which a vehicle is inspected to ensure that it conforms to regulations governing safety and emissions.

The Cambodia road traffic law states in Article 48 that “all vehicles, trailers, semi-trailers, motorbikes or motortricycles which are moving along the road shall have certificates of technical inspection by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport”. New vehicles are required to have a technical inspection before vehicle registration. A technical inspection is also required upon change of vehicle ownership.

New four-wheel vehicles are required conduct a technical check once every two years; new motorcycles once every four years. Second hand four wheel vehicles are required to have a technical check every year; secondhand motorcycles once every two years.

The inspection centre is located at the Department of Land Transport, Ministry of Public Works and Transport. Currently, the centre can only accommodate four-wheel vehicles. A two-wheel inspection centre is being built. Furthermore, the Department of Land Transport is prioritizing reducing the time needed to conduct the technical inspection procedure.
